It is not at all anti-productive ! See, when you ensure a minimum wage what you provide them is a subsistence/comfortable wage! It ensures that the laborers are healthy and at peace of mind so that their work capacity is maintained... The more a worker is healthy the better his productivity!
Of course there is a line of thought that ensuring minimum wages eats in to the profits of the factory owner/employer! But that is bit too far fetched, because even if the labor is well compensated the producer gets normal profit and that is already included in the cost of production. Even if the producer gives a low wage they will continue to charge the same profit thereby ensuring higher profits... Let us not be greedy and give everyone THEIR DUE !
Further the government has an obligation to ensure that no one is exploited !

How can it be? It only ensures a certain minimum wages is paid to the worker so that he can sustain. If you see, minimum wagers are still not enough. Monthy wages are less than what you may spend on eating out with couple of friends at a time. Then the worker constitute the majority of population, there protection (to whatever extent) can not be anti productive, for if they do not get what is the meaning of production? what kind of democracy will it be.
Where workmen get more, they have a better interest in working and total productivity is more.
