Is the fuel consumption the same when you going down hill with low gear or high gear?

With a fuel injected engine, the fuel is only going into the cylinders at a ratio high enough to keep it from 'running lean'. The inertia of the car is keeping the engine turning, so their is no fuel consumed in making power. You should keep the car in high gear to keep the engine revolutions as slow as possible without going below the engine idle speed (typically 500-1200 rpm). The lower the revs, the less air the engine is ingesting, thus requiring less fuel to keep the cylinders from burning too lean (burns rings and pistons, baaaad!)

Going down with high gear will save petrol due to less resistance.
But there is a trade off. Your car will lose control if you need to brake on down slope due to inertia. Lower gear is safer and for a better control.

the lower your engine turns the less fuel consumed , neutral would be best but coasting or freewheeling is illegal in many places

anytime your rpm's are up is is fuel consumption
