Why is it that I am always tired? even if I get an early night I wake up tired. Its got to the stage that I almaost fall asleep at my desk about 3.30. I dont feel ill, just always tired. I am 45, I have to admit a few things, I smoke, not alot but I do smoke. I drink most nights, not lots just a couple of glasses of wine or a couple of pints. My job involves lots of walking up and down stairs and I eat well, lots of fruit etc. I am not overweight, 5'7" and under 11stone.

Any Ideas??

I have been checked for diabetes a while back, when this first started by my doctor, he said it was Ok. I did go through a bad divorce and lose a thriving business, but that was over 2 years ago. Now I have a great woman and a house, although I am still heavilly in debt from the divorce costs etc. Maybe its that, I will go to doctor again and see what he says. By the way my tounge is often "sore" if thats the right word.

Everyone has put really good answers, thank you. I cannot say which one is the best, to choose one would not be fair to the others. i will see my doctor AND have a sleep test done. Thanks everyone for your input. I put it to the vote.

As many of the others have said , it could be diabetes , i would go and have a chat with your doctor , it could also be a vitamin deficiency , perhaps get some multi vitamins or even some seven seas tonic from your pharmacy , i was a bit like that (tired all the time) a few months ago but after a few days taking a tonic i was much better , it may be just the "kick start" you need , all the best .

Why dont you go to bed an hour before you are ready to sleep and read for a while, this will relax you and you will fall into a more natural sleep. Also, this time of year people start to get affected by lack of sunshine, so you could try buying one of those lamps for SAD, check out the web there is loads of info on there.

Could possibly be diabetes, get a blood test via your doctor. Don't panic!!! Its a remote possibilty as you are not overweight but it won't hurt to get it checked out, not ALL tpye 2 diabetics are fat :D
General advice, cut down on the alcohol, have a couple opf alcohol days a week. Cut down on the ciggies (Im a right killjoy!! lol) and increase your exercise. Up and down stairs is good but it may not be nough. Keep up the healthy eating.
And good luck in getting it sorted soon.

Definitely sounds like obstructive sleep apnea could be a possibility. I am a sleep tech. People with apnea wake up tired no matter how much they sleep because their sleep is so interrupted. Symptoms of OSA are fatigue, snoring, sore throat, bad memory, waking up frequently (usually to urinate), morning headaches. You may have one or a few symptoms, but OSA will cause fatigue because when your airway is relaxed and gets blocked off, your oxygen level decreases and you have what we call "arousals" or breaks in the sleep cycle making it difficult to obtain restoritive sleep. If this sounds familiar I would definitely consider getting a sleep study done. It's a painless overnight diagnostic test where they monitor your breathing and brain activity.

A lot of people around your age feels this way. You are not getting into the deepest level of sleep and there is a reason why. Go to your doctor and tell him/her what you feel. You need to do some test but if you can get a good night sleep it will be worth it.

I was going to suggest diet as the main factor, this is what I've found. But you haven't mentioned anything about your state of mind. Are you happy? Tricky question and I'm not sure I can answer that myself. Breaking routines helps a lot for me, I am really not into regulating anything (this has been a problem throughout my life). Lately I have been a lot less tired than I used to be - but to be honest I am not sure why that is. Good luck.

Get a sleep study done. It may be that you suffer from sleep apnea. The majority of people are unaware that they suffer from this. Prolonged apnea can eventually lead to heart problem. I'd recommend that you do a quick study on www.WebMd for a more thorough list of symptoms and solutions. I've found it very helpful.

You may be anemic. Have you blood iron checked or just start taking iron pills and monitor exacxlty how you feel after you take it for the day.

Could be dehydrated. Body may not hydrate as fast anymore so your limit may be off. Drink a sports drink before bed after drinking. Some b complex will aid your body against alcohol.

a couple of medical suggestions could be thyroid problems or more probable diabetes. do you go to the toilet alot, or feel thirsty? these are signs of diabetes.

other than that, maybe this is psychological. try starting each morning with a puzzle to wake up your mind.... or a cold shower every morning.

see your doctor if it gets worse

Hi I would consult your GP first but there may be an imbalance in your energy field, so a complementary therpist may help. A therapy like Reiki http://www.dochsa.com/reiki.html or hypnotherapy may help: http://www.dochsa.com/hypnotherapy.html
