Goto tools menu - internet options click the clear history button and this will clear all the past sites you havisited from the address tool bar. But still the cookies and files will be available and to delete them you have to click the buttons delete cookies & delete files buttons in teh internet options menu and then all the traces of the places you have visited would be deleted. This you can confirm by clicking the setting - view files and you should see only an empty screen then you are safe all the data history of your browsing is totally deleted.

It's AutoComplete that you want to stop as well.

Go to Tools>>>Internet Options, click on the Content tab, click on AutoComplete. Take out the tick beside Web Addresses, then click Apply, then OK.
