I have the same problem. Plus cramping in my feet and legs. Since I've been taking an extra tab of zinc, magnesium and calcium,(besides my regular vitamins and herbs) it's like a miracle and I don't have restless legs nor cramps. No need to go to a dr for that.
I've taken amitryptiline and all it did was make me angry all the time. If you need anti-depressants, ask your dr. for a newer one, like Effexor. Or maybe an anti-anxiety med. Good luck hon!

I have got to say that the answers I have read are a bit distressing to me. I have had RLS for about 10 years and am seeing a sleep specialist for it, I have a sleep study scheduled for next month. I was hoping that I could find a treatment that would make the RLS go completely away but it seems like it will be a life long battle to sleep (by the answers I have read here.) I am going to try and see if acupuncture will help. The drugs that I have been prescribed seem to work for a while until I build up a resistance to them and then have to switch to a different one. The last one was Mirapex but I had very severe side effects and had to stop taking it and return to the Requip and Gabapenten that I was taking. Hot baths do help, also if you have a particularly physical day it seems worse. I also have it in my arms and legs. The most upsetting thing to me is that if you tell someone that you have RLS they look at you like you are from a different planet, ( like oh big deal) The public needs to realize what a debilitating disorder this can be. If anyone has had any experience with acupuncture being effective for RLS please respond to this question . Good luck with this.

Well you can try exercising more maybe jog in place.I am sorry to say that though I have heard of it I have never known anyone who has had it. You can go to another doctor or ask about some other medication instead of the one he prescribed.

i think i may have this, and it may sound wierd, but usually i do several things to fall asleep.
1. wiggle my toes, or shake my foot
2. rub my feet over each other, back and forth
3. if all else fails, i actually beat the crap out of my leg, till i get it numb, (i use the padding from my closed fist, sometimes my knuckles, just depends) but only hard enough to where it is not like im hitting my leg to the point where each hit hurts. kind of soft, yet firm.

wierd, but works for me.

limu moui is wonderful for this. comes from brown seaweed from the island of Tonga. there is no pollution there like in japan and other countries where brown seaweed is marketed. comes in a liquid and is totally natural and tasty.

No idea. But try readjusting your diet maybe..?

My mom has RLS and she says the symptoms are worse when she eats sodium.

Try cutting out sodium--chips, processed foods, take out, pretzles, etc.--and see what happens.

there are newer drugs other than the amitriptilline you should ask your doc for those, don't let something curable lower your quality of life.
