I seem to be completely backwards, at least in this regard.
It was a standing joke in my last job which was in a sales room, that all morning I would answer the phone with Good Afternoon and as soon as the clock struck 12, I would switch to saying Good Morning.
My colleagues found this totally hillarious, and in order to stop doing it I really had to concentrate, still, it was a good ice breaker for the sales aspect.

I say, hello, it is safer and less time sensitive
Give the fact I generally don't even know which way up is until I have had 17 cups of tea/coffee and 12,ooo cigerettes, the chances of me getting the correct time of day is highly unlikely

No, I say good morning/afternoon at the appropriate times of the day. And I say them often.

Often. I work the night shift and I don't intend to, it just comes out that way sometimes.
If I'm really tired, I just say "hello" because I know I'll mess it up!

When i worked as a secretary over the summer, i said it too much. But sometimes i would just do it for the hell of it. That's how i got my jollies. Until i discovered Y!A of course. Then it was "goodbye answering phone" and "hello answering questions".
