This is usually because the virus has hidden itself in your system restore folder which anti-virus programmes can't access.

You have to turn off system restore (Start > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore > Settings) then enter "Safe Mode" by continually pressing F8 on boot up.

Run your anti-virus programme again (and once more for luck) as well as any anti-spyware programme you may have and then reboot as normal. This usually gets rid of any nasty infection. If you know what infection you have you can see alternative methods for destroying it on you anti-virus website, they may have a special tool for particulary nasty infections.

Don't forget to turn on system restore again and if you have got rid of the virus create a restore point so if you are infected again you can go back to a clean machine.

It's worth getting an expert to check your computer out at:

Register, go to the Hijack This Forum, read the instructions on how to post a log, give a brief description of your problem (like you've just typed) and post your log there. The guys in there are fantastic and trustworthy and will guide you through in getting rid of anything nasty from your computer. Good luck!
