People still drive cars because they feel like they have to, in order to get around in today's world, where people have to rush around as they do.

They also are not fully educated about the effects of global warming. They get mixed messages from media, politicians and scientists Some say it's a major concern, some say it isn't. I think most people probably get scared of the idea, yet they wouldn't know how to live without cars, let alone other things that cause pollution. When they hear authority figures say there is nothing to worry about, they latch onto that, because it is what they want to believe. Then when they hear others trying to warn them, they sort of block it out. And so they keep using cars and buying more. That's how it works for the general population at large.

As long as there are heavy demands for any product, major corporations will make it available to us, because it will make them lots of money, regardless of the future effects on the environment, And I do believe there are some people high up in power (politicians, the president, other leaders of major corporations etc) that make alot of money off the oil required for automobiles. They make sure that enough people keep wanting whatever they want to sell them, and through media connections and other things, sort of brainwash people into thinking "I need this, I must have it!" So even though they are saying that they are just accomodating the people's demands, they are also creating the demand for the product in the first place.

Tell your bus driver to walk you to school and see what happens.

Ask your mom to stop driving to the store for groceries, she ought to take a bike. See what happens.

People will drive their cars because they have to now. Trying to rewind the world is useless and pathetic. Instead of eliminating cars, change their fuel source.

Here's something else to consider: how much pollution today is caused by cars, and how much is caused by small engines, like lawnmowers and such? The simple answer is that your car produces less pollution in a day than a lawnmower does in 5 minutes (cars have catalytic convertors which eliminate most of the pollutants, lawnmowers don't). No one is crying out for the elimination of lawnmowers, weedeaters, chainsaws, and go-carts. No one gripes about ship exhausts, either. Everyone ignores gas-powered welding generators, and all they can remember in the end is: cars.

Cars use a lot of gas, but they do not produce as much pollution as the rest of the gas-powered world.

Grow up any way you like, but the world will be full of money, and dirty deserts, and flooded cities, because the world always changes. Whether there are humans and cars and politicians or not, this will keep happening. Rivers will change their courses, and always have, mountains will grow and be worn down, ice ages will come and go, and YOU CAN'T STOP IT.

Complain some more about politicians. That's like cutting off your foot because you can't stop your toenails from growing. Equally useless. Instead of asking "why is there air" questions, ask questions with real and useful answers. One suggestion: instead of "Why do people still drive their cars...", ask what is being done about the conversion of cars to clean fuels. That will get you a useful answer.

This is not a stupid question and it shows that you actually care. An increase in global temperatures can in turn cause other changes, including a rising sea level and changes in the amount and pattern of precipitation. These changes may increase the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events, such as floods, droughts, heat waves, hurricanes, and tornados. Other consequences include higher or lower agricultural yields, glacial retreat, reduced summer streamflows, species extinctions and increases in the ranges of disease vectors. Warming is expected to affect the number and magnitude of these events; however, it is difficult to connect particular events to global warming. The uncertainty is more significant regarding how much climate change should be expected in the future, and there is a hotly contested political and public debate over what, if anything, should be done to reduce or reverse future warming, and how to deal with the predicted consequences. Become a scientist or even better a politician and do what you can to help. At the very least when you vote for someone, make sure they are on the right side of this issue. Peace to you.

Your concerns are really what I always think about.

A planet of over six billion people, many adopting the capitalistic system. That means more automobiles and other excesses of capitalism.

There must be ways in which people can live in harmony and find the means in which to preserve earth for future generations.

The more people keep polluting, the more difficult it is for earth to stay healthy.

There are many natural means by which people can begin working toward a healthier planet.

Automobile pollution is just a small part of the pollution.

What about use of pesticides and dangerous chemicals?

How can they be contained? By avoiding use of pesticides on lawns, we may see less cancer and more healthy shorelines.

What about trash disposal? Ever think that eliminating plastic trash bags and replacing them with biodegradeable ones?

What about trash cans? They seem to only get in the way? Again, most made of plastic.

These are petroleum products, and gasoline is a big part of the economic equation.

What's needed is better and healthier products and I am counting on the capitalist system to innovate and do away with all those harmful products being made in these times.

As stated previously (above), it may be too late.

The subject of whether earth is actually dying a slow death can and will be debated for years and years, up until that final day before the whole thing falls apart entirely.

The forces of capitalism and mankind's stupidy are tough issues to reckon with.

The more mankind tries to correct what is wrong from the past, the more he tends to create newer and bigger problems.

Other species we share this planet with have more sense in the way they live.

In many parts of the world, people live in filth and neglect. Capitalism is supposed to help, but it tends to enrich only the very wealthy few.

We need more like Bill Gates to step up to the plate and make some needed changes.

Or else, your concerns will come to fruition.

Good question, but how else r we going to get to the grocery store, post office, doctors appts., etc horse and buggy would be great, but if u live in an apt . or the city, where are u gonna park him and what would u do with the manure. If we get electric cars, the power plants that make the electricity polute the air by burning coal. What u r worrying over is not going to happen tomorrow, so just keep growing up and enjoy each day on planet earth, such as it is.

We have politicians because otherwise the world would be in more chaos than it is.
Yes, we should cut down on pollution. BUT cars aren't actually leading to all the pollution. Stopping driving won't help.
Believe me, you won't have to worry about the ice caps completely melting overnight and flooding the world. It won't happen suddenly. And because of erosion (which occurs naturally), much of the water will be absorbed. So, you won't have oceanfront property in Kansas anytime soon.
Besides, global warming actually leads to global cooling. The polar ice caps will melt for awhile, and then it'll cool right back off again. Don't worry about it.

Because global warming isn't caused by cars, factories or man. It's caused by the fact that we are closer to the sun than we were 100 years ago. Elipitcal orbits are never perfect and always changing. In about another 10000 years we will be seeing another ice age.

Volcanoes put out far less C02 than man. But on the same note, they put out a lot more Methane than man ever has.... Methane is (Oh no!) 23 times as potent of a greenhouse gas than C02 is.

Hmmm.

Out of the mouths of babes comes truth. You are so right. Life is such a rat race, we've forgotten to stop and smell the roses. Everything and everyone has a "fast Food" mentality. If only the world would just stop, take a deep breath, change our priorities and get back to living a real life without materialism. Don't ever change. Stay innocent as long as you can.

What you are trying to say is:

"Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world"

Which means: "You are plain Crazy"

"You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one"

Dont let the crazyness die, and hope that it's contagious, b'cause is the only way to go!
