and most of the ones that are actually useful, usually, are endowed with horrible stats.
example?
minun has great stats, and scyther has mediocre
slugma has unbelievable stats, and crobat has mediocre
ledyba has wonderful stats, and its evolution, ledian has really bad stats

well, i guess that, since youre a starter pokemon for a majority of the game, you and all the first stage pokemon have to have these great stats. since this game is like no other pokemon game, where you could evolve anytime, this gives you a better atvantage as you will spend most of the time as a first stage pokemon, other wise you wouldnt be able to beat all the legendaries, now can you in other games, beat a lvl 70 raquaza with sweet little torchic? all i can say is that the evolutionary forms of the pokemon dont play a major role in the story line.

Well, my guess is that maybe since Mystery Dungeon is running on a different game engine, that decided to do something different 0_o'
