Your height and weight are perfectly within the normal range so don't worry about that. Trying to lose a great deal of weight may even be unhealthy, but exercise to have more muscle and less body fat could be fine.

Swimming is a wonderful toning exercise and is as close to zero impact as you can get. A workmate who had a knee injury that stopped his running now swims a lot and has no trouble.

Additionally, see a physiotherapist regarding the ligament problem. I have had serious problems with one of my knees but a few simple exercises from physio has completely fixed the problems and I can now run or jog long distances without pain.

hey dude, you are well within your height and weight ratio
ie height in cms - 100 = ideal weight. so
if your 178 cm - 100 = 78 kg (ideal wt) you are quite healthy with 76kgs on you. there is no need for you to panic about your weight to the problem in the leg. better see an orthopedician first and confirm about the problem. if there is a ligament tear or injury in the knee(commonly seen) then consult a physiotherapist about the next mode of action. and if you are having pain during jogging, better stop jogging for a while. strengthen your leg muscles first in a gym or on a quads table(available in almost all gyms and with a practising physiotherapist). hope things work out for you man.

Three square meals, nothing in between. Brisk walk - morning, evening and after dinner for 20 - 30 minutes. You will lose about 10 kgs in two months.
