I hope that there's still a pulse there but we haven't seen star trek since Enterprise was cancelled In may of 2005, and the last Movie was Nemesis in 2002, maybe it was the prequel idea that screwed things up, let's face it The Phantom Menace made prequels a pretty bad idea from the start, but who knows maybe they'll make a new star trek that takes place after Nemesis with some new ships, and who knows as for the next captian maybe he could be played by Hugh Jackman, if Picard can be a good X-man, Wolverine could be a good commanding officer, seriously I'd pick someone wev'e already seen as a junior officer for captain, like Tom Paris or Harry Kim

i liked Captian Archer he had a darker personality than any other star trek captian, he was willing to send men to their deaths, if the mission required, and he is changed after the Xindi conflict, he becomes more of a soldier than an explorer

Enterprise was final the nail in the coffin that was constructed by Janeway and set on fire by Harry Kim & Neelix. Archer had a darker personality sure, but that's ALL he had... well, other than Porthos.
Hoshi losing her uniform while climbing through the vents was a brilliant shining moment, and the mirror universe episodes of the Empire were pretty cool, but aside from that- it was just painful to watch.
I'll take the TOS, NG and DS9 any day.

Difficult question. I think over here in the UK, yes it probably is (it really is regarded with derision over here, and now Doctor Who is popular again Trek will lose the loyalty of youngsters who would grow into the Trekkies of tomorrow). However Trek is still popular in the good old USA and is really accepted as a part of Americana and American pop culture. Because of this I think it is unlikely to die out completely. A lot will hinge on the popularity of the next Trek film - Trek XI in 2008. It looks like it's going to be a prequel with Kirk and Spock (young actors, obviously - Matt Damon has expressed an interest in playing Kirk)- there will probably be an attempt to make it 'cooler' and 'hard edged' in the way that Batman, Battlestar Galactica and James Bond have been re-visualised. Whether this will mean more violence and action and less of what made Trek special (optimistic Roddenberryesque ideals) we shall see. It will no doubt be a reboot, though. I think Trek XI is Trek's last chance - if it fails Trek will not be on TV for a long time, if ever. I think TV movies or straight to video (DVD) could be an option (to cater for hardcore Trekkies like me). The highpoint of the NextGen days are long gone, though, whatever happens. Sadly we are unlikely to see any more series set in the time of TNG, DS9 and VOY, which is a shame for those of us who enjoyed those eras and were disappointed with Enterprise.

Star Trek XI is announced for 2008. With J.J. Abrams (Lost creator) as producer. So maybe they are stranded on some strange planet or something..
And personally love Star Trek. The only Star Trek I didn't like was most of SEason 1 of Voyager. And after Season 4 it got really good. But aside from that I lover everything about star trek. (Only the general fault in their idea that there is no more money needed. Because if so, why would people clean the streets or work in a construction crew or do stuff like that if they can do anything they want because money doesn't matter)

Interesting ideas for new captains. The problem Star Trek has hit is finding new ideas. I'd love to see it return to our screens with a new series. And new adversaries to rival the Borg.

Although I love the show I don't know how they are going to keep the concept going without making a real hash of it. There's been some pretty serious hatchet jobs done on it from time to time.
As much as I don't want to admit it, I think it is on its last legs. I just hope it has an honourable death rather than wasting away, a crippled shell of its former self.

Its dead, get over it. Its a good series (the original), but people aren't really in the mood for the idealism of Star Trek anymore. Don't try to resuscitate it artifically, and bring it back to life with a new series, if it has the power it will take on a life of its own, all by itself.

No, it just needs to get the cast back together and Picard is a problem, he is so busy.

God, I hope it's dead. The writers seem to have done a pretty good job of butchering the original premise into thousands of itty-bitty marketing splinters. They sure milked THAT cash-cow, didn't they???
Hugh Jackman wouldn't bother... You need to stop masturbating to your action figures, kiddo...
