What did various cultures use or do to wipe their bottoms?

only in europe did the use of paper evolve, most countrys preffering water to wash the naughty bits.

I dont understand why you guys need to use toilet paper. Over here we use plain old water. Its much cheaper and more hygenic. Try it and see you bottom become more healthier!

asians do use toilet paper.
my mom said in the 70s toilet paper used to feel like sandpaper but now with more plys they're much softer.
