The real answer is you can't, universities a only a certain amount of bandwidth so they restrict what they consider spurious use, the only exception to this being the OU however.....

If you university is Microsoft based a Linux programme can hunt through the possible proxies and find a hole, it sometimes even works on a Unix system, but if the IT administrator is on the ball he will close any open ports if he sees a lot of traffic going through it.

The best solution is to simply get yourself a Broadband connection, (for students I suggest Virgin as they deal with monthly rather than annual contracts). Of course this will only work if you have access to a private BT line.

Is it worth it for you to get rusticated from the University for violation of their restrictions?

If you think it is, then go ahead and learn how proxy servers work.

It's your life.

Type the url as below in the address bar of your browser. Or copy and paste and replace "www.openthis.com" with the address you want to open.

http://www.google.com/translate?langpair=en|en&u=www.openthis.com

(www.openthis.com stands for the URL you want to open)
