In science fiction stories why do the people shake inside a space ship, for example, when the MilleniumFalcon starts to shake and the toolbox falls on top of Han, or the crew of Enterprise (NX-01) really gets shaken up during any fight with the Xindi, if it has it's own artificial gravity wouldnt that shake with the ship there fore eliminating the crew and passengers being thrown around when the ship gets shot at

It's not so much an issue of artificial gravity as it is of inertia. Obviously since artificial gravity the way it appears on sci-fi shows doesn't exist, we don't know how it would really work, but the assumption is that the objects within are still subject to the laws of motion. Shows like Star Trek have "invented" what they call "inertial dampers" to account for the people not getting yanked to pieces when ships accellerate to ridiculous speeds, but apparently those don't dampen (enough) the concussive forces that hit the ships when they're attacked.

The Earth is a spaceship and you are standing on it due to gravity, natural or artificial. When there is an earthquake, due to the earth shaking or a meteor hitting, do you shake with it and get thrown about? Case closed.

i appreciate this question. ok . when u travel in space ship u feel that space ship is shaking.it is correct.At the starting , shuttle is in rest.if u want to attain a specific velocity then u must accelerate it .since the acceleration is inversely propotional to the mass.after attaining that velocity the rate of change of velocity is zero then u normally travel without shakes with that attained velocity .

You have put your finger on one of the tiny technical details that have led me to believe that they didn't really boldly go and explore new frontiers at all. My theory is that they just got a bunch of vulcan and klingon actors to pretend that it was all happening and they filled in the rest with cunning cinematographic trompe l'oeil.

ah yes...but the gravity ont he ships in only as trong as normal planetary gravity...thinkg about being on somehtin that is mofinv erratically and tryin to stand up...doesn't work...same applies to the suden jolts on space ships like an earhtquake in space....
