I am a out and butch looking lesbian. My partner is a butch looking lesbian also but she acts very femme. When we first got together my and her friends made such a big deal because they had it in thier heads that only butch and femme's dated. And that assumption came even from a few of our out friends. It just strikes me as funny that some gay people who are suppossed to be more open minded still think that femme's have to want to date butches and butches have to date femme's. Ever since i excepted i was gay i found both butch and femme women attractive...i look at is as as long as she is a she i dont care what she looks like..LOL

And also why just because i dress boyish and have short hair so i get pegged as butch? I dont know how to change a tire and i like flowers LOL..i just dont get why we still feel we have to put people in some sort of "class" to define that person...
Ok im done i just wanted others views...
Thanks for dropping by

I don't know, everyone tries to categorize everything, It's just human nature.

Yes, your photo is butch... I mistooke you for a man until i looked at your photo up close on your 360 page.

I too have been attracted to femms as well as butches.
I am in-between. (neither fem or butch... in between)

I've often wondered about this too. I've been blessed with friends who don't assume things like this, but the general public does. I consider myself to be in between. My partner wears men's clothes and has really short hair, but when you get right down to it, neither of us is very butch. We both have some "masculine" skills and some "feminine" skills.
I don't like being placed in boxes, but that is what our society does, so I deal with the box, but I try to shift people's perspective a little, by opening the box and sticking a metaphorical leg or arm out.

Preach is son! I know in my case I ask if something looks good on me or if I look good because half the time I can't tell if something looks hideous on me or not. I always used to get picked on when I was younger as well because i grew up in an area where everybody was blonde haired and blue eyed, and I'm italian with extremely dark features so I stuck out! The popular girls tore me apart and I coudln't STAND to look at myself in the mirror. Yuck, dark, dark times. But then again, those girls were just trying to make themselves more secure, and they're the kinds of people fishing for compliments. heh.

People like to categorize. It's just our way of trying to understand things better. I've been pegged as a "butch", but I don't really mind. Coz I do dress like a guy, because I'm more comfortable in this kind of clothes. I don't really like to wear fitting clothes. That's just the way I've always been. It's fine with me that I'm pegged as a butch. I see it as one of the ways for people in my society to understand my sexual orientation. But, I know for a fact that I'm a sexy butch! I have a female body, with all the right curves. I just like to wear male apparel. \m/

Unfortunately since alot of us were brought up in a Judeo-Christian western environment, the stereotypes of our past are what we are most comfortable with. If children were brought up to see past the male and female of things, we wouldn't be so likely to pigeon hole our roles. Its just a comfortable way to identify people in a relationship but its not progressive because you are still relying on certain identifiers to describe the role.

My g/f and I are very feminine, because we are girls (older ones, but still girls) and we like it that way. I'm not going to cut my hair, or wear pants because it makes it more comfortable for someone else to figure who is who in the relationship. I remember once when we started getting together and our kids were getting to know us, and one of my daughters said "Face it mom, you are the guy!" I told her "with these boobs, I am DEFINITELY not a guy".

Just blow them off, its their limitations not yours.

Misty,
My take on it is that it's typically descriptive of the appearance.

Kinda like "priest" or "kid." Know what I mean?

The fact that so many gays dress butch proves they really desire to be straight otheriwse you would not dress like men, yes?

If you love the same sex so much why do you need to act like the opposite one?
