Intelligent, gentle, loyal, protective, beautiful animals! For all their size, they are so graceful and powerful, but sensitive.

Yeah they are really neat creatures.I watched a documentary of them how they move in herds. Only the females together move in herds. That means a mother, sister, cousin, daughter and so on. It's usually one that leads all the others. The male elephants do not travel in herds. They stay alone. When the females all left, that male was hollering out a cry!! I watched them move all over Africa seeking water holes. I watched a 2 yr old daughter die, from lack of food and water. The mother and other elephants were trying to get her up, and stay moving. The daughter couldn't go on any more. They traveled for 2 months searching for food and water. Elephants are the only , I should say, they feel more grieving than other mammals. When the daughter died, they had a ceremony for her. Each elephant, stayed there for a while, smelling the daughter, and touching her. All the others except for the mother, started leaving after saying good bye. The mother could not leave her side. It was very emotional. They had to convince the mother to move on. They also found some other relatives in their journey and were able to smell the bones and carry the bones with them to a burial ground for them. They finally found water after 2 months of traveling. Would you believe that? Elephants are much smarter than we think. They are more caring than some of us humans. Oh yeah, they say their wrinkled skin helps them to stay cooler, since they cannot sweat, the wrinkles helps their skin to breath. They love playing in water.

Elephants are awesome and I admire anyone who's out there helping them out. Like the people at Hohenwald Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee.
One of their elephants killed a care taker this summer and injured another. That was terrible. The elephant got really depressed afterwards, but is recovering with the help of the other handlers and elephants.
Check it out at

They even have an ELECAM, a live web cam where you can watch them.

Uhm... they're big? I think I've never seen a real elephant in my life.
There was a popular Hungarian cartoon with an elephant, KÃváncsi Fáncsi (Curious Fanny)
Oh, I love that they go to die to the same place. It's kind of touching.

Despite their size and ungainly looks, they're very intelligent and very
valuable. I have read where they are also loyal to their owners. It takes
a village and elephants have certainly proved that.
