In an upscale establishment waitresses can take home up to $200 or 300 a night easily. In an Average Joe type place, I am suspecting that they continue to work there because of the need for employment and income. Education may play a large part in it, and I am not putting anybody down as I myself waitressed for several years...you guessed it, no college education! Here in California the wait staff is paid our minimum wage of $6.75 an hour plus their tips.

Luckily for people who want to make sure that wages are as low as possible, there's a large pool of unskilled labor south of the border that has little problem getting to where the jobs are up north.

Yay! Cheap labor!

P.S. Actually, there's a strong correlation between average wages & standard of living. So if we found a way to ruin a people's standard of living (ie bombing the fershizzle out of them) then we could save a lot of money on our car insurance. Booyah.
