Give an experience not a thing.Make a picnic lunch together, take her to the senior centre with a basket of treats to hand out,go fly a kite together,, etc.
I can't tell you what I got or who I got it from for my last birthday but I can recount every adventure I have been on.

I always make up a little certificate looking official that you have drawn yourself for work around the house help with anything. Believe me it gets happily redeemed
