Tipping I feel should be a way of expressing thanks for really good service. If there is a baseline for tips, then I feel they should include it in the bill. Agree?

I disagree the the service is better than European counterparts. What is worse is that after you tip them, they give you the "look" as if you owed them a living. Shouldn't all wait staff be thankful for a tip big or small?

I agree that you should tip what you want. But what if they do something nasty to you if you don't tip at all? What if you get **** in your next meal there?

Of course its expected that they will not be happy if you don't tip. But why after tipping, they still give you the "look"? Shouldn't tips be appreciated, big or small?

+ If you get poor service you need not tip. If it is OK service and you want to come back you had better.

This is only for a 'sit down' restaurant. Fast food places have been putting out jars asking for tips but I never do. (A coffee shop, maybe. If the person that took my order and made it did a great job) If the waiter/waitress was nice and brought out the food quickly and kept your drinks full then it's expected to tip 10% of the bill. This goes for every state. Some people always tip 10% even if the service is bad but I don't agree with that practice. If the server is rude and didn't keep the drinks full then I will not tip. A $5 tip is fairly good where I come from; western part of the US.

Yes & NO!
In the U.S. Your Waiter/Waitress will probably NOT be earing anything near the European Counterparts earn!
There fore Tipping is Complusary! Traditionally DOUBLE THE TAX (Every State has a Different Tax). Then If you feel happy with the service you've recieved you can then make a Gratuity payment of your own decidng!

The Plus side is that the Services provided By the 'Majority' of U.S. Waiting Staff Provide a Superior Service to any one else!

It's not compulsory & Not necessarily Ali. You see, in the US, employers are allowed to pay tip workers a paltry sub-poverty base hourly wage. But they are also cutting out some of the services we customers are used to receiving from a waitstaff. Yet we are expected to continue to pay an increasing percentage as tips.

In fact, I had lunch at the newest China Sea in San Antonio today. They want you to pay IN ADVANCE, AND TIP IN ADVANCE. Yet all the waitstaff does is bring your drink and clean your table, something that should be included in the price of the meal. Yet you are still expected to tip.

I don't want the tip included. It's my choice how much to tip. It isn't compulsory either, but like you said expressing thanks for good service. Good service good tip. Bad service no tip. Most wait staff are awesome & work hard. The odd one doesn't give a damn so I don't want anyone putting a tip on the bill when it isn't deserved. It's my money.

the tip should not be in included in the bill... NEVER

I was at this resteraunt with some friends and all our children.

There we three adults plus 8 kids. We had three seperate bills.

Since we had more then 8 people on our table, the resteraunt automatically included the tip in our bill. The tip on my bill was around $15.00.

I was upset becaue I had already left a five dollar bill by my plate, and had to ask for the ticket on the way out to pay my bil. I told the cashier I had already left a tip on the table and to take my tip off the bill she would not do it. I went back to the table to get my tip, and the tip was already gone... I will never go there again..

I disagree. Minimum wage is so low that tipping should be mandatory. Actually, I think that tipping should be dispensed with altogether and waitstaff be paid a decent wage.

Because in America, Waitstaff have been known to attack patrons who do not tip at least 20% or none at all...so it is motivated out of fear for one's life and limb.
