My 2.5 month old HATES tummy time. She just lays there and cries and doesn't do anything. I have tried toys and getting down on her level, but it doesn't seem to help. She is getting behind in raising her head in a sitting position. She can hold it up when I hold her, but she doesn't raise it when she is on her tummy. She is ahead in other areas, but can't seem to get this. Any suggestions?

All my kids did this as well. As long as they can hold their head up when you are holding them- they are on track. I always just put them on their tummy a couple of times a day just to get them use to it. Just don't let your baby get to angry or holding his or her head up won't be an option for them. They will just get to frusterated and not want to do anything but scream. Don't force her to be on her tummy for a long time at once. While she's on her tummy- take her by one of her legs and show her how to roll over- if nothing else- it gets her off her tummy and shows her how to roll over. Hope this helps.

Try a Bumbo seat. She's almost old enough for it, and it truly helps with muscle development. My 6 month old also HATES tummy time! I had to wait until she was a little older and I could distract her with toys and such. I put her on the couch and I sat on the floor so we were at eye level with eachother. I could get her to stay on her tummy for 15 or so minutes at a time if I sat with her. You may just have to wait until she's older to really work with her. Every baby's different, and her not having a lot of tummy time won't hurt her at all.

As suggested by the others, getting on your tummy and facing her, or rolling up a blanket to put under her arms are both good ideas. You could try lying her on her tummy along the width of a hammock, she might enjoy the gentle swinging. Another idea is to use one of those large exercise balls, as you can gently rock and roll her on it. These are also great for balance and gross motor skills as she gets older. Most importantly don't leave her on her tummy too long if she is not enjoying it, she will get there eventually. Good luck.

Mine did the same thing! Don't worry about it! She rolled over on her own and held her head up all on her own. Don't stress out about it too much. And if people tell you that her head will be a weird shape from laying on her back ignore them! All babies have soft skulls the first year and that's totally normal. Listen to your baby! If she doesn't like it then let her do her own thing after all she is communicating with you and telling you she doesn't like it. Laying on the tummy also puts pressure on their tiny tummies and can make them spit up more so don't worry.

Try rolling a blanket and putting it under her arms. Take a toy and place it in front of her. My youngest loved doing this, but if you took away the blanket, she had a fit.
