If yes, could the refresh rate of the screen be a cause?

Yes it is, but from personal experience the refresh rate has nothing to do with it. Remember, the refresh rate has nothing to do with the internet. All that has to do with the Monitor. if you have a CRT monitor, then the refresh rate will give you a headache.
If you have an LCD monitor, the refresh rate is 8ms or less, which is far faster than our brains can discern, so we wouldn't even notice it.

the Internet is my drug along with a big cup of coffee right at my side......and no the refresh is not a cure, it just allows you to go longer on the Internet ,,,,,,i am a "Internet junkie" LOL.......

I blame it all on Xerox, Steve Jobs, and Bill Gates for making the computer too user friendly. No cute graphics, no addiction.
