They just get told NO don't do that!!! And the cup gets taken away. If the child is still drinking from a sippy cup then they are too young to really understand what they did wrong. Toddler's generally do things like that to see what is ok to do and what is not or a cause and effect type of thing where it goes: if I throw this cup what will happen?. So you can't punish a person for not realizing what they did was wrong. And definatly no hitting the child. That only teaches that it ok to hit/ hurt other people.
