If there is a nation-state declared war with N. Korea they might need to consider it, considering they have over 1 million men in their armed forces. As far as the Iraq conflict goes, no, its not necessary

Not right now, but if Korea gets messy they may have to use a draft for a reserve, but I think that would be primarily a Naval war off the coast and Japan involved. Now, the Chinese and Japs have never got along and the Japanese have been aggressors against China for some time. Being that Korea is a Communist country as well is China, I am not sure what China would do if they got involved as China's economy grows and a good chance to dominate. Sometimes things are not as they appear.

Truthfully and in fairness, yes. Right now, mostly poor and underprivileged kids are joining the military. The army is even recruiting in poor countries like Guatemala with promises of full citizenship to enlistees who complete their training and serve in Iraq. (This is a fact witnessed by my family while on a college trip for Cal. state, Fullerton) If we had a draft such as we had in Vietnam, the quality of our armed forces would go up dramatically with a more even distribution of better educated draftees. You might even see a Senator's son or two fighting this stupid war....As of this moment, NO sons or daughters of high ranking Senators or Congressmen are deployed in Iraq...I hate the idea of the draft, but every country that has one, has a pretty well educated well balanced military--Switzerland, Germany, Israel, China, all have mandatory military service. From a strictly DEFENSIVE military standpoint, a draft would be a good thing for national defense. Mucking about STARTING wars? That's another story!

It wouldn't work in modern day America....but say if North Korea Nuked California, then people wouldn't probably be eager to join and go kick some *** so there would be no need to have a draft...I would laugh in the face of President Bush if there was a draft for the Iraq war which I can assure you there wont be

why would they bring the draft back when, released just this past tuesday that, the armed forces had a record year for re-enlistment. and enlistment. You have all thse ppl out here protesting the war and saying bring our troops home when they are enlisting and saying send me back voluntarily. Our troops now what is best for our country. They know the job at hand and what has to be done. And they are not gonna leave the job unfinished.

No, we have 1.3 million full time troops. We have only 100k in iraq, so that leaves us with 1.2 million troops that are free to fight other fronts.
The only country that could really sap our resources would be north korea, because nowhere else on earth would we ever have to fight 1 million troops over a extremely small 125 mile front. It would be the worlds most dense battle ever, even more than Stalingrad (1.3 million germans, 1.5 million russians fighting over 500 miles)
Satelite photos indicate that north korea has 13,000 artillery pieces within range of seoul south korea. Thats the most dense group of artillery pieces ever recorded.
In just an hour, those artillery pieces could fire 90,000 tons of shells. That would be 60 times as powerful as the allied raid on hamburg, which destroyed the city and killed 50,000 people.

No the draft is a bunch of Bullshit. A person should be willing and not made to fight for their country. It is selfish for people to be drafted and possibly killed over some BS war that shouldn't even be happening! Losing someone to war who is willing to fight for their country is bad enough, but losing them bc they were drafted is worse. Besides that unless we go to WW3 they won't draft. Drafting is a last resort if they don't have enough men to fight.

Why would you want to bring back the draft? It's NOT about a "war on terror" or "fighting for freedoms". It's REALLY all about THIS!...

you have got to be kidding. It is obvious that you never paid attention in class. we still have the draft, genius. that is why you have to register for selective services when you turn 18. in order to enact the draft the congress has to approve it.

i believe that all 21 year old males and females should serve at least a mandatory two year term. that way they get to see different parts of the world. they see how others live. they appreciate the differences in cultures. maybe then some of these same well rounded individuals would step up and lead this country the right way. regardless of political party.we need a big change and it has to start with the attitude of young America.
