He's 11 months old and I have been trying to get him to clap his hands and wave bye bye. Do most babies do this by now? I always clap to him and show him how to do it but he doesn't seen to interested. Same with waving. I just wanted to know what age they start doing this and how to help him learn how to.

I have three small children at home and the way that I taught them was to clap in front of them and to grab their hands and clap for them...to wave bye...I did the same thing. Wave at them and then grab their hand and wave for them.

Look real excited to do it and when they do it...reward them with a huge smile and hug and then let them know that they did a great job.

Repetition is the best way to teach a child.

Baby Clapping Age

My grand baby is 8 months and we have been doing "patty cake" with her for about 2 months she picked up the clapping part after we clapped her hands for her. Waving BYe bye takes time. Pointing takes a long while those little fingers :). Babies do things at their own pace just keep playing and he'll get it (and then some)

Most of babies at that age can wave and clap but all kids a different. My son is 14 months old and he can talk really good for his age but he just started clapping last week and I'm one of them moms that clapped at everything..lol..so one day he's gonna surprise you like mine did and just start doing it. So dont stress over it to much

I think you are trying to hard and he's feeling required or pressured to.

Whenever you leave the room or go outside wave/say bye bye and leave it at that, don't ask him to do it back. Whenever there is a chance to say "YAY" and clap then do that, but don't ask him to or expect him to. He is going to surprise you one day when he just does it. My daughter started waving bye bye at 6mths. (she just raised her hand and put it back down, waving with her hand motioning near 9mths and now at 16mths does it like anyone else. She started clapping around 10mths. Whenever she done something cute or what we would clap and say YAY or GO Sarah.

Relaxing is the key and making it fun is the other key! Don't get stressed or worried b/c he feels those vibes.

I had been trying to get my 10 month old daughter to clap for a while and then about a month or so ago she just picked it up on her own.As far as waving byebye my daughter has been doing that for a few months. She learned it from a little girl who was about 7 months older then my own.Just give him time. He will pick it up when he is ready.

11 months is perfect. As every physician and good parent will tell you every child is different. However, I was able to teach my two children both clapping and waving goodbye by repitition. Oh, and of course rewarding them with a smile, laugh, or just a lot of attention whenever they accomplished the task. Remember, children are nothing but small people and we all learn from repetition and rewards.

You just wait, he'll surprise you here by picking it up and doing it when you least expect it. No worries, he'll do it when he wants. My 11mth old just started clapping her hands a lot, but she doesnt wave bye-bye. The best way for them to learn is to see you do it, so keep it up!

I have a one year old nephew and he learned how to clap and wave by watching either grandma or grandpa. But,he likes to take what he was eating from HIS mouth and try sticking it into grandpas mouth,THEN he'll wave bye bye, lol.

All babies develope at their own pace. Maybe he does it when your not looking or not around. I know my son wouldn't wave when i was trying to get him to wave to me...but I found out that he would wave to other people all the time. As for talking my first son didn't start talking until after he was one. My other son though started talking about 11 to 12 mos. Just give it time.
