"Daddy, what does regret mean?"
"Well son, a funny thing about regret is that it's better to regret something you HAVE done than to regret something you haven't done. And by the way, if you see your mum this weekend, be sure and tell her SATAN SATAN SATAN SATAN!"

It's easier to regret something you did do, because it's real and concrete and you can see the consequences. eg - I slept with a friend, and now I can see how that action has affected my life. Something you didn't do is an absence so it's easier to ignore/repress. There's always going to be infinite alternatives of other directions you could have taken: I didn't go to India, I didn't talk to my gran more the last time I saw her before she died, I didn't work harder at school, etc. so it depends how conscious you are of these being real possibilities that were available to you but that you neglected.

Regretting something you didn't do. If you regret something that you already did, then you can get over it and move on and you knew the outcome of the situation. When you regret something that you didn't do, you will never know what could have happened.

Regretting something I didn't do is worse because I had a choice to change the outcome and I didn't.

Probably the road not taken, because you'll always wonder 'what if?'.

I do, however, really really regret that one party I went to in the early 80's. It changed my life. But that's another story for another time...

A life lived in regret is a life half lived, so do or don't do, but don't regret.

I would have to say something that you did not do. You can not go into the past and a change something, but u can say something later. life is way to short to be thinkin about something that you should have done, Instead think ahead and how you would act next time
