I took a degree in sociology and psychology with a certification in social work. I found a great career in the field of mental health and developmental disabilities. My sociology degree helped in dealing with the family members, guardians, therapists, and technicians I supervised in treatment homes.

Just remember that a bachelor's degree opens the door, but further education and/or experience will be required.

I spent thirty years working with great pride and joy in the field of mental health and developmental services. My salary as a supervisor in a treatment program was approximately 60K. BUT if you are going into the field thinking you will be making the "big buck," think again! You don't get rich working in the health care field.

My brother majored in Sociology and did a bunch of dead end jobs for a few years and he recently earned a Masters in Social Work. So... not a lot of earning potential to be honest with you.

I'm sure like any Liberal Arts degree you could work any sort of job. You could get any sort of cubicle style job and end up earning a lot within five years or so.

Positives - you're able to do just about something. Negatives - you may no longer do pass into the "super professions"; regulation, drugs, and so on... I genuinely have been a instructor, bartender, college administrator, expert photogrpher, conflict determination/mediation coach, and college administrator and specific I genuinely have a BA in Sociology. lots for saving the worldwide!
