It used to be that rape was considered "the fate worse than death," but I think most of us would decide that is a bit extreme. One can, after all, recover from rape.

I also agree that torture can be worse than death. And certainly being kept alive artificially, when one is hopelessly ill and in pain, is worse than death.

I appreciate the nobel sentiment of "death before dishonor," but I am not that brave. Or at the very least, I do not believe I am. Perhaps if it came to that, I would be.
