will the tax cuts starve the federal government of the revenues necessary to fund social programs that benefit middle and lower-income families?

But are these programs really useful?

There is nothing at this point Bush could propose that I would support.

He has lost all credibility with me....I'm just waiting for his time to be over.

As a middle class American, I take home more money now (less money confiscated in taxes) than under Clinton. As a result, I have more disposable income to buy goods and services. Since there are more like me who have more disposable income, more people have to be hired to provide the goods and services. As a result, there are more jobs and more people to pay taxes. As a result of all this, income tax revenues go up that is to say they increase. Not to mention that the more money the evil corporations like Wal-Mart make, the more taxes they have to pay. All this extra money flowing into the federal coffers can be used to fund things like the war. So, yes I am in favor of making the tax cuts permanent.

On the other side of the coin, higher taxes means less disposable income, fewer goods and services purchased, people have to be laid off, corporations don't make as much money so they don't pay as much in taxes, the laid off workers don't pay taxes so there are fewer people paying the taxes so revenues to the federal government go down.

It really isn't that complicated.

First, anything any Congress does can be undone by any later Congress, so the concept of a permanent tax cut is totally bogus at the outset.

But I do not support making the tax cuts permanent. The idea of starving the government has been proven not to work time after time after time. If we had a Balanced Budget Amendment to the Constitution, then perhaps we could cut taxes and make it work. But as long as the members of Congress are willing to mortgage our grandchildren's future to pay for their pork projects, I cannot support tax cuts.

I'm not big on it because they are heavily geared toward the rich... I get $100 and they get tens of thousands back?

yeah... they need it...

when the debt is gone and we're not in a war... cut away... until then... I'm not big on it...

the tax cuts have generated some revenue... but the stats are very skewed by all the war funding that is generating billions of dollars in revenue at the same time that wasn't being generated before... they both came into affect at about the same time....

Bush does not reflect the majority of real Americans. He is out of touch. He only listens to extreme right wingers that support Nazi-ism.

These tax cuts only apply to the top 1% of wage earners and of course to greedy corporations.

If these tax cuts applied to the middle class and the underpriveledged then perhaps I could look at his policies differently.

Of course social programs will always be needed, since so many people refuse to take care of their elderly relatives and refuse to care for their disabled relatives, and throw them to the streets to fend for themselves.

Tax cuts stimulate the economy, as can be seen by the record taxes being collected by the government. The reason they work is that when you give tax cuts to wealthy business owners, they create more jobs which in turn creates more taxpayers allowing for the expansion of the middle class, imperitive to a healthy economy. So yes, I support it.

What are you talking about? The middle class will always gets screwed no matter who is in office. By the way, did you know that the rich pay the majority of the taxes in this country? I hope you never become successful or own your own business and get screwed over in taxes for your hard work.

Tax cuts increase federal tax revenues. More money for social programs.

Social programs are a pox on society. They make people dependant on govt.

Yes, I support permanent tax cuts.

A true Republican believes in one thing. A small government (read low taxes) to handle the things that the States and individuals cannot handle alone. A true Democrat believes in one different thing. A large government (read high taxes) to take care of everyone.

That's it. The rest is subjective. Democrats have led the US into most of its wars. They have always been the Hawks.

As a true Republican, I believe in low taxes, a small Federal government, and more personal choice.
