I do believe in equality but we don't have to fool ourselves that we can strike a balance. But let me answer the question looking at female and male. Before we can think about the so called "equality"i strongly believe that we must first break the cultural concept within this scenario. It is indeed the philosophy underpining the whole process of equality. Inequality is socially constructed therefore lets first destroy the roots. Of course there are some attempts but this is not satisfactory Cos while others are trying others are watering or encouraging Cos culture differs from one society to the other. Like in my culture we still believe that a man is the decision maker at a family level in the process this goes up to the national level. Tell me how many women are holding ministerial posts in your country for sure they are very few.To conclude we need a paradigm shift to address this issues. We are still playing. Change cultural system first. UN has challenge all member countries to give women 30% of parliamentary/ ministrial representation why not 50% just to balance. You see it is even hard at international level then what about at family level, disastrous. OUR CULTURE is given preference when addressing this. Anyway that my opinion.

I believe all people are equal in value.
At the same time, I measure "better" by whether someone is a good, decent, kind, person - and when it comes to how good, decent and kind someone is I believe some people are better than others.

In What way?? That's a loaded question. I love dogs, horses, snow, chocolate, coffee and take each person for who they are.
Does that make me better than someone who loves cats, dislikes horses, loves hot weather, loves vanilla, tea and judges everyone just because they are not like them. I don't think so.
But we have free will to think what we want. With out it how would we ever learn we're all in the same canoe.
No unfortunately we do not have true equality. But we're slowly but surely learning "judge not least yea be judged".

everybody was created equal.
but...
people confuse opportunities with greatness. a common misconception nowadays would be that somebody is better than someone else simply because they were born with better opportunities. That does not make somebody better or more superior than somebody else. For example, somebody born into a rich and powerful family may be more vulnerable to good opportunities compared to somebody born into a poor family who may have less opportunities offered to them. But in the end, they are both human, and both have the same exact rights [well at least in the U.S.]
get the gist?

in the u.s we were all created equal, according to the law. Some people are more equal than others, some are better, some are worse in some things. We are definitely not equally skilled in physical or mental things.

You mentioned equality and also 'better'
Under the law, we are all equal. However, we can be better than others at certain things.

Some people are better than others at some thing. Some people are better at most things than most everybody else. Some people stink at everything they do. But we all need to be loved, eat, and go to the bathroom just the same. I dont know what I am talking about.

A lot of people act as if they are better because of their wealth or looks but character is what makes the difference. How you react in a difficult situation is what sets you apart from others. It comes with maturity, time and a decision to weather the storms of life in a positive way.

per se, it can never be derive. some are, those genius type. some aren't, idiotic people whom i say are somewhat harsh for branding into people, but it's true though hard to accept. depending on a given scenario, some people are better than the other. depending on the subject, topic, issue... irrelevant or not, some people seem to be better or best than the other. due to educational specialization.
emotionally, no one is better than the other. sometimes all of us act foolishly. sometimes we are all idiots in emotional acceptance.
physically, some are better than the other too. reality check, thin people stay thin due to bone structure, not nutritional reasons.
thus, depending on the degree of how you look at it. at some point, some are better than the others....
