No Emachine takes a snapshot of the emachine motherboard and only works with that configuration. At least the machines before Gateway bought them out did.

All these computer makers have a proprietary set of disks for their own machines and it will not work. If you can't get a HP disk, consider buying a new install of XP. That is what I did when I started having trouble with HP's version. If you have something really bad go wrong and mess up certain files on the computer the restore disk won't work, because you can't install with it.
Here is something to try, if you haven't already.
Click Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System restore. Pick a date before you started having the problems you are now having and restore it that way.

No -first make sure you have backed up ALL OF YOUR PERSONAL FILES

Then you need to find your xp serial - i use magicjellybean keyfinder - write this down and check for a serial number on perhaps a label on your pc
then go here

http://www.nu2.nu/bootcd/wxp/

and follow the instructions to recreate the xp install disk as was originally used to install xp on your machine
Note this RECREATES the original windows xp that was installed on your machine - when xp was installed at the factory the xp setup files get copied to your pc to a folder called i386 so as long as you have this you can do it. There is a chance that this folder has been deleted or damaged in which case there may be a i386 folder containing the required files on the recovery disks.
I do this every time i or a friend buys a pc, it's the first thing i do and means you have your own copy of xp if you ever want to reinstall in the future.

Yes it will. I used a Dell disk that I got with a PC a while back to restore Windows to a whitebox when windows crashed a few months ago.
