Sometimes you can get a good deal - sometimes you can get taken.

The more knowledge you have about eBay and the bike you're buying, the less likely you are to get taken.

There's no blanket 'right' answer about if eBay is a good place to buy bikes. It's all dependent on which bike, and who's selling it. Same as if you were buying from a local.

The thing is, without actually being able to put your hands on the bike and take it for a spin, you're at somewhat of a disadvantage online.

If it's your first bike, and maybe one of your first purchases on eBay, then I would say NO. Don't do it. Look for something local.

I personally would not buy a bike that I could not test drive.

If you could find one that you like that was in your state or close enough for you to go test ride it that would be the way to go. Even if you went to another site unless it was close you still couldn't test it . I bought one from E-Bay and it just happened to be less than 100 miles from my son so he went and rode it called me and the deal was done.
