Because when I look at the homework help questions, so many of them look like the questions at the end of a chapter? And on the math problems, do you math teachers go over the problems beofr assigning them as homework? Because I just want the kids to know that without the textbooks and class notes that I am ill equipped to help them with their homework.

I just talked to a teacher who works at a middle school that threw out their math textbooks. They teach math entirely through real-life materials and examples. Topics include voter apathy, international development issues (HIV, TB, malaria, etc), nutrition, etc. So if they're studying the UN in Social Studies, they can look at statistics related to diseases in developed and developing nations, read a novel about life in Africa and build models of clean-water wells. These teachers are not just assigning questions from the back of a textbook - they are GUIDING the students towards real-world applications of the curriculum goals at each grade level.

they do teach, it's just that sometimes its hard for us students to grasp a concept, even with notes. and some textbooks aren't all that great.

as for those that post questions just to have it solved for them, i see that all the time. i've posted a question about physics, but i only asked for the people that answered to point me in the right direction. there are so many equations in physics, that i didn't know which ones to use, so i just needed some explanation of what i needed to find.

No, they don't, but your kid(s) will go to the college, one day, and they will graduate, another day, they will become doctors or lawyers and all these in spite of the fact that teachers don't teach anymore. Yes, your kids are geniuses, sir, and teachers don't do their job.

G'day Herbert G,

Thanks for your question.

I am sure that they do. Whether the students listen of course is another matter. It was probably ever thus.

As well, I suspect that some students are hoping to have someone do their work for them.

Regards
