I know a site with 3d avatars and good 3d eviroment that looks like runescape, go to maidmarian.com and choose one of the online like tankball and ...(not really avatars, but movable characters)

I thought imvu was pretty cool and zwinky but you have to download both or myspace and face book are pretty cool and you do not have to download that!
