second answer's right:

if you solve for x in the first equation, you get:

x = -.423y + 195

plug that into the second equation:

7.5 (-.423Y +195) - 3.17 y +1125 = 0

will give you

y = 407.9622

and finally plugging y into either equation will give you

x = 22.4320

Gaussian elimination applied to the system

x + 0.423y = 195
7.5x - 3.17y = -1125

gives you

x = 22.4320, y = 407.9622
