It would be very difficult if you don't know what you're doing. If you plan on doing this for a living, you better count on some dry spells, where you lose more than you win. If you can handle that, you might be suited
for this profession. Keep mind, even in the top gamblers have probably
lost a lot of money, but won even more. Concentrate on only a few forms of gambling. If you try to be a jack of all trades, you may spread the risk, but you're also spreading your resources in terms of time and money. At least with poker, you can sort of gauge your skill by playing
in smaller events first, and then working your way up. I would recommend reading all the information and watching all the TV and reading online about poker. If you're going to do horse racing and other
forms of sports betting, I would recommend getting as much as information as you can prior to placing your bets, so you can make a bet using your knowledge. I would place the bet as late as possible, so you can use the latest knowledge, i.e. injury/illness, or some other
factor that could affect your bet. When I make bets, I try to use as much information as I can, before I actually make my pick. When it comes to playing against the spread, I'm roughly breaking even, but when it comes to betting straight up, I'm right 75-80% of the time, which
is fairly decent I think, since I'm an amateur, not a professional. The more information you have to making your pick, the better your odds are of making the correct pick.

If you are playing poker and know that it's a fair game, you still have to beat the rake of the casino. I think it's very difficult to make a living at gambling... some of the best do well for perhaps years... and then they start losing... for years! It's a crapshoot at best, and certainly nothing to consider if you're raising a family. However, if you are single, why not give it a try on the weekends (don't quit your day job) and see how well you perform. You might be surprised how good some poker players are today... and then, some are just lucky!

Gambling against a casino is a losing endeavor -- in the long run you can't beat the house -- the odds are too heavily weighted in gt heir favor.

If you are a EXPERT poker player, gambling against others can be quite profitable.

Are you a hotshot in your weekly game against your friends?

When you play against strangers, you'll find that most at the table are local hotshots -- and some are almost unbeatable and will clean you out in no time.

You have to be very smart to start with -- then spend years learning, to become expert.

For most people it would be easier to get an advanced college degree and a good job than to become a professional poker player.

We all gamble all the time. Taking any decision is always a gamble. There will always be certain factors that are beyond your control while some will be under your control. More the factors beyond your control, more risky will be the gamble. If you feel while playing poker and other games, you have more control over factors than your competitor, go for it.

Any decision also involves investment of time, money and energy in that particular decision over other decisions. If you have time, money and energy that you think can get you more dividends than any other decision , go for gambling for living. Whatever you do, whether going in for gambling or not going in for it, do it based on proper assessment of yourself and the surroundings.

My good wishes are for you .

I once knew a guy that always had kind of a part time job, but his main money came from gambling. He was well known for his gambling, once a big time bookie at one time. However, a few years ago, his luck started running really bad. He was in debt hundreds of thousands of dollars from what I heard.

He had borrowed money from every person in the world that he could think of. He still couldn't pull it out. He put a gun to his head and killed himself last July because of owing so many gambling debts. No, he wasn't done away with. He did it to himself because he couldn't get out of debt and couldn't stand it any longer.

Never been close to this desperate and hope I never am. I really don't think gambling will make a living forever, maybe for awhile and then you get desperate. I don't recommend trying it.

I thought the world of the man. But, desperate people do desperate things. He was loved by many. His funeral was the biggest I've ever been to and included hundreds of people that he owed money to. But, he proved to me that gambling is not worth your life.

I think there are lots of people who actually do gamble for a living - but they know the odds, and they know how to play those odds. Also, remarkably, you can be sure that most professional gamblers are NOT addicted to gambling. Addicts gamble until the money is gone - professionals who are making a career of it know to quit when they are ahead, and save their money for another game.

In today's world, I would say that gambling for a living is no riskier than working for a company like Enron, for example. It's just as easy to lose - or to win.

But, if this is what you want to do, work at one of those icky traditional jobs for a while first and save a nest egg that you can fall back on when you have a losing streak. Also, save up your 'stake' money, and never dip into your savings for additional stake money! Use savings to pay your bills when you have to - get a traditional job to get your gambling money.

Gambling would be a very hard way to make a living, you would need loads of information about probability and odds and be prepared to lose.

Gambling is gambling, and it is supposed to be a form of entertainment only. Spend big, lose big.
