Venomus explains it best. Think of it this way: subtract 12 from the time and then you have it. So 20 - 12 is 8 therefore it is 8:00.

To turn a time into military time add 12. 8:00 + 12 = 20... and that was the original time.

Think of the day as a 24 hour day... with 12:00:01 midnight plus 1 second being zero hour.... so 12 noon would be 12:00:00, 1pm would be 13:00:00 and so on... so 20:15:47 would be 8:15 and 47 seconds pm. This is how the military tells time so as not to confuse AM and PM hours when giving directions or instructions for any sort of military activity. Anything after 12 is an after NOON hour... 13, 14, 15, and so on through to 24:00:00..which would bring you back to midnight!

There are 24 hours in a day. Midnight until 1:00 a.m. is the first hour of the day.

Military Time:

01:00 (one am)
02:00
03:00
04:00
05:00
06:00
07:00
08:00
09:00
10:00 (still am)
11:00
12:00 (noon)
13:00 (one pm)
14:00 (two pm)
15:00 (three pm)
16:00 (four pm)
17:00 (five pm)
18:00 (six pm)
19:00 (seven pm)
20:00 (eight pm)
21:00 (nine pm)
22:00 (ten pm)
23:00 (eleven pm)
24:00 (midnight or 12:00 am)

20:15:47 means:

20 = Hour = 8 pm
15 = Minute = 15 minutes
47 = Second = 47 seconds.

It reads = "Twenty hundred and fifteen minutes and forty seven seconds."

Or, it reads = It's fifteen minutes and 47 seconds after eight p.m."
*********************************************************************
What time is:
22:59:22 ? (About half a minute before eleven pm)
18:14:43 ? (About a quarter past six pm)
03:29:45 ? (About three thirty in the morning)

**********************************************************************

There are 24 hours in a day.
There are 60 minutes in an hour.
There are 60 seconds in a minute.

Which of these military times is not a real time?

25:39:32 (Not real There are only 24 hours, not 25, in a day)
18:83:42 (Not real. There are only 60 minutes in an hour, not 83)
16:38:91 (Not real.There are only 60 seconds in a minute, not 91)

3:00 am = 0300
""
""
""
"" up to
11:00 am = 1100

1 pm =1300
2 pm =1400

Some watches have 13, 14, 15 through 24 on the face of the watch and that is what it is for.

Have fun with it. In hospitals we also use military time.

thats military time. which is easy...

20:15:47 is 9:15 (47 seconds)

this is how it works...

12:00 is 12:00
13:00 is 1:00
14:00 is 2
15:00 is 3
16:00 is 4
17:00 is 5
18:00 is 6
19:00 is 7
20:00 is 9

after 12 would normally go to 1:00, in military time it just keeps going up. hope that made sense :]
