I have surfed the net and all but never owned my own computer. I want a laptop but I am unfamiliar with Apple products. I just surf the net and listen to lots of music. Never used anything but windows in 10 years of computing. I want to be able to download and store lots of musicand may buy an mp3 player later. With apple will I be stuck with ipods only? Any probs with p2p networks? I dont know a lot about this, I am like a beginner. My friend, an IT pro walks me through everything but I learn fast.

I don't think that there's a better person to give you advice on this matter than your friend, but I can tell you that I have both, Mac and PC's and if you have never used a Mac before, it will be kind of difficult in the beginning, because the program its a lot different that Windows. You don' t have to use just Ipods, since most MP3 players have drivers for Mac computers and in the other Mac computers are really good.
Hope it helps.

I going to put this to you the way I tell my clients. There is nothing wrong with a MAC.

Now that we have that out of the way. Look at it like this, you can get a mac or a pc, but think about your support. Almost every kid on your block could help you with a PC, but only a specialist can help you with a Mac.

So if you think you are running to your friend now for support, just wait for the first day you pull your mac out of the box.

Also, go to your local computer store, compare the amount of Windows PC based software vs. the Mac software. Although you can emulate (a program that is designed run on a different platform) the PC on the mac, will never be a PC.

Now as far as buying a Laptop, look into buy a used or reconditioned laptop, especially since your needs are simple. you will spend 1/3rd of the money

as you get better with the in's and out's of PC or MAC usage. Move on to a better laptop with the features that meet your needs.

In the mean time check out our website, for some great information.

Mac doesn't emulate Windows, it can run Windows natively at full speed. Despite what the PC users tell you, you can do anything with a Mac these days, all without the viruses and instability of the Windows world.

macs are better for p2p, and easier for inexperienced people, but more expensive. Go for the baseline mac book because i dont think your going to be doing any video editing or graphics.
