I am 20 and he is 24.My brother thinks i'm too young to be dating. When I try to point out the fact that at my age he got married, he dismisses it. The guy is respectable and is exactly what my brother would want me to have if it wasn't his friend. How can I get him to look past the fact that i'm his sister and just be happy for me?

Outside of a normally emotionally charged yelling match ( it is what siblings in disagreement sometimes do) ask him to tell you what it is about the friend that makes him scared for you. He may indeed have some not so nice information on him that you are unaware of. The guy may be gay, or abuses women, or is on drugs but keeps it hidden. If your brother is trying to protect you from him, there is a reason. Respect that.
Move on. Ask your brother to introduce you to a nice guy suitable for marriage, and that may put him back a step or two. He will be able to look at you a bit differently than "little sister" and bring you up to the grown-up table with him. And then go out and find your own.

If your brother refused to let you date his friend maybe because he knows something about the other guy that you dont know. Tlak to your brother that 20 is not young anymore! Tried talk to his friends and see if he also interest in you, if both of you do, then your brother will soon accept it!

You are an adult and it is not your brother's business who or when you date.
Do what is right for you.
