I am looking for a word that means something like "made me to start thinking about something". The word is not "inspired" I don't think but I cannot think of what it is. Here is the sentence I am wanting to use the word for if it will help. Thanks!

Putting in my application to teacher education has __________ me to start thinking about why I wish to be a teacher.

"prompted"?

Either way, I'd rewrite the whole sentence if I were you. One would HOPE that putting in your application to teacher education was making you think about why you want to be a teacher. That will assumed by the people reviewing your app and really shouldn't even need to be stated. Just tell them what you're thinking.

As I applied for the Teacher Education program, I began to "ponder", why is it I wish to be a teacher?

Prompted is a good word but I wouldn't use it and you need to re-write your sentence.
How's this?--

Submitting my application has started me thinking about why I wish to teach.

Simple, to the point. Don't use words you don't need or feel like you have to use words that will "impress". We tend to get too wordy and confusing when we do that. Just talk.
Good luck.

Triggered? Initiated? Launched? (Those first three words do not quite fit into the sentence you provided but I was hoping to help you think of the word if it isn't any of these) Caused? Encouraged? Led me to?

If you're just inserting a word in the blank, the following words work. However, they don't mean exactly what you want.

caused; motivated; prompted

If your sentence is rewritten slightly, you could use deliberate, meditate, ponder, or reflect.

Maybe you want to turn your sentance around somehow. But the words that come to mind are insparation and influenced.
