Unfortunately, along with the HD emblems come an often too-high pricetag for the quality of the merchandise.

There are several similarly styled bikes nowadays that have a much lower price tag and are better built and more reliable.

Check out the Suzuki Boulevards... they have the accessories available to chrome them out like is so popular with the Harleys... but they've got the dependabiility of a Suzuki.

No you don't have to be rich. I rode a Kawasaki for years, most of the time wishing I could afford a Harley. At least I was riding. So I saved up. I was out for a ride and spotted what looked like a new Harley with a for sale sign on it in someone's front yard. I stopped to look at it. It was in perfect condition, clean, shinny, real low mileage and was 5 years old. I test rode it, it ran great, I fell in love, talked the seller down on price and blew the savings. I have no regrets. It's the best thing out there on two wheels and I didn't have to spend a lot for a new one, although it was basically new. Don't let those Jap bike owners steer you wrong. Harleys are great. Just spend some time and shop around. You'll find a deal. Banks love to loan money, so get a loan and get the bike. Don't sit on the sidelines when you could be sitting in the saddle of a Harley.*happy face*

LOL no you don't need to be rich to own a Harley. You can buy them second hand for as little as 3500 for a used sportster in my area. The banks wont finance at that level but for that little amount I would assume you could obtain or save it.

I'm not rich, but I've owned one for years. It's not a bike that needs constant repair or is only loud. I've also owned other makes and I find my Harley is more comfortableto ride than any other I've had. If you maintain it correctly, it doesn't take any more effort than any other bike. I rather ride it on the highway than any other I've had.

It's a question of priorities. I'm not rich, but I own a BMW. But I live in the "hood," don't have kids, and am free to indulge myself a bit.

If you really really want one, you may have to do without something else in order to afford one. If you want it badly enough, you'll manage it.

And of course you can always go used. There are TONS of people getting rid of theirs. The prices are still pretty steep, but perhaps if you go with an older model.....

I own 2 and I am far from rich.the last one i purchased was a 1987 Lowrider with less than 20,000 miles on it for $7800.you can get good deals on them if you look around. As for having to fix them all the time, that's nonsence, you'll only hear that from people that have never owned one.Parts are very easy to find and are much cheaper than for other bikes. If you wnat to know the truth about Harleys, talk to some people that actually own one.

Best used prices are found at the end of the riding season.
If it's sold, it doesn't have to be stored.
You may be surprised what you can find on the side of the road.

Dealer maintenance is expensive, I'll be doing my own (as usual).

Not as long as you dont have to have the biggest, used Sportsters sell for under 5k, you can get a nice 883 for a starter for around 4k and a really nice 1200 for 5 to 6k :)
