Why did I think that putting my plastic digital thermometer over my lamp was a good idea?

I just wanted to see how high the temperature would go. Then I smelled something getting too hot. Now the "Made In China" label on its back is all wavy. But it still works.

probably the same reason I put my tropical fish in the refrigerator cause it was so hot in the house
