I heard on Oprah a lady that went to space said is smelled like burnt cookies but my husband doesn't believe it and said it is IMPOSSIBLE for space to have any smell at all. He said there were no particles or something like that. Can space have a smell?

no, theres no way that space can have a smell becuase there is no air particles. Thats why if you play Most Def at top notch volume in space your space neighbors and you could not hear it. An smell is particles of the object. When you smell dog poop in the park, little pieces of dog poop are infiltrating you senses. so you are what you smell, in space sense it is such an open area and with little to no air particles for smell to diffuse your husband is right. It is impossible. Oh if you smell brownies little particles of brownie gets in side of you. better than dog poop dont ya think.

I think ur husband's right coz if in deep space there's only vacuum and u need to hav particles difffusing into your olfactory cells (in ur nose)for u to smell anything..how can they be pushed around if there's no air molecules to do that? Maybe when u do get to a star that has an atmopshere it's possible.

I don't believe space itself has a smell, but maybe atmospheres of asteriods and comets and planets(of course) have smells. But in order for there to be smell, there must be particles for the smell to travel through (air).

The heat generated by electircal equipment makes certain plastics outgass chemicals that smell like burnt almond cookies. That might be what she is talking about.

Smells like teen spirit.

She was not describing space, she was describing the cabin of the space station. It has an atmosphere, and therefore can have an odor.

There is no molecules in space. You need molecules to have scent. that civilian that smelled cookies could smell something on the spacestation her nostrals were never exposed to open space other wise she would be dead.

If your face is exposed to smell anything in space you won't live to tell what it smelled like

There's nothing there. I guess it could smell like the air getting ripped put of your lungs, but that's not really a smell, is it?
