If they're in your house (short of calling in an exterminator - I did that recently but not because of spiders - there are far worse bugs you can have in your home) probably the best thing to do is to get rid of anything that will make your place more hospitable for them.

Most house spiders are the tiny ones that make cobwebs; knocking down the webs regularly will discourage them. Also - make sure you aren't doing anything to harbor bugs that spiders feed on - if they have no prey they won't hang around (no pun intended!). Don't leave out food or other stuff that draws flies and gnats - and don't leave doors open so that crickets can come in.

However, there will be parts of homes like attics and basements where it is near impossible to be rid of them, but you can discourage them from settling in the occupied parts of your home.

RE: How to get rid of spiders (various species) in and around home? I just moved into the back half of a house and I've noticed a lot spiders around the windows and yard. Is there any simple solution to get rid of them (other than fumigating)? Not sure if they make specifically spider traps. Any info is appreciated - thanks.

Leave them alone if thier outside. Everyone likes walking (face first) into a spider web. In the house, I would suck them & thier webs up with a Shopvac.

Don't. Spiders are very beneficial to us. If you find any in the house, don't kill them, just trap them in a jar and put them outside.

Unless your really infested, or they are really big and scary, I leave them alone. That way I don't have any other bugs. (The spiders eat them).
