Yes, that would go down as an 'own goal'.

Something really strange happened a couple of weeks back in Brazil, where the referee had stopped play in a game, the ball went out of the field (just wide of the left-hand goal post), the keeper wasn't paying attention, and the ball boy came on the field of play and tapped the ball into the goal, the referee gave it as a goal to the opposing team!! STRANGE??

Yes sir when ever the ball passes the white goal line while in play it is a goal unless opposing team hand hit it in. Or somekind of penalty

what you're referring to is called a "drop-kick." Whether the keeper punts it or drop-kicks it, it may be a goal either way as long as there are no fouls.
