I actually answer questions just because I feel that it may help to enable us all to better understand each other. My perspective may be a bit different than many other "straight" people. Personally I think that most people who identify themselves as straight are just way over on one side of the Kinsey scale - but that sexuality is really a continuua rather than a binary absolute. This is primarily because my childhood sweetheart and first wife - fell in love with a woman during the second year of our marriage. While we eventually broke up (amicably) - I was her best friend and confidant while she discovered her true sexuality was lesbian. Mostly I think I became 'enlightened' as a direct consequence of that experience and while even today I still consider myself a "straight" man, I have explored my sexuality, just to be sure. Since then, I have ever since walked in support of the LGBT community in Pride marches and eventually re-married... this time to a bisexual woman who is very active in the LGBT community locally and I continue to have many friends and family who are either Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transexual. For a few years I maintained the local GLBT web-site, and we still celebrate and go out to BBQs and stuff - our kids play with the kids from the other GLBT families and have very strong pro-GLBT attitudes. I have no idea what their sexualities will be when they develop them - but they will be loved and accepted by myself and my wife regardless. I look at it this way - when two people fall in love - it is something that is far too precious a gift - for gender to be an obstacle.

One of my oldest and dearest friends, who I have known for 28 years, is gay. I have other gay friends. Although he's only seven years old, odds are my nephew is gay (he likes wearing dresses and playing with perfume and makeup and he loves his pink feather boa). I first started checking out this section because I hoped it would give me some insight as well as helpful information. The more of the hate and bashing I saw, the more furious and frustrated I became. Nobody should be treated the way these trolls have treated people here. I hope that by the time he's an adult my nephew won't have to deal with sub-humans like this.
Keep in mind that many straights are here because we have loved ones who are gay, and we honestly want to learn, to understand and to help. Some people are just curious. The trolls and bashers are a tiny minority of the population - don't judge the rest of us based upon them.

Well, in my case I'm personally not straight or GLBT...I'm an aromantic asexual who doesn't fit into any of the categories in the answer boards.
I tend to answer certain questions to promote my belief that everyone is equally deserving of love and respect, no matter what their race, age, gender, orientation, or anything else. It's just how I feel about the world we live in. No more discrimination. No more prejudice. No more bigotry. End the hate!

Ever heard of an Ally? I became an Ally after finding out one of my best friends was a lesbian, and she first opened my eyes to all the adversity facing LGBT individuals. I then went to a very very liberal all women's liberal arts college, and the issue was further brought to my attention and I hated how narrow minded so many people are and how they don't respect other people's diversity. Anyhow, I seem to find that the LGBT community is more open minded and liberal, which I am, and , as they say, birds of a feather flock together (even though in my personal case opposites attract, meaning the opposite sex;). I also admire LGBT individuals- it takes a lot of courage to come out and accept their sexuality in the face of such homophobia and possible family schisms.

I am here to answer some questions, to receive more points. I am usually in the category Polls & Surveys, but everyone there tonight is boring. Am I not allowed in certain categories because of my sexual preference?

I had a same sex experience when I was young and have relatives and friends that are gay. I'm here because I think life is too short to not live it the way you choose. I'm a defender of free choice.

I have gay friends. I want to understand what they are going through. Not to change them or understand why or any of that crap, but just to be a better friend.
