My new manager enjoys socializing with his employees (hell, he's a party animal and always looking for a party excuse) But he is a great guy and believes he needs to be friends with his employees because we all need to get along to make the office function at its best - If you have the knack for it, be their manager and their friend. (Probably wouldn't be real wise to get hammered tho)

I guess it depends on if you're comfortable with going out with them or not. If you're not comfortable for whatever reasons just politely decline. If you are comfortable then go and have a drink with them.
