I hate to tell you this, but get ready to buckle down and endure it for the next three to four months. New born babies MUST feed that often. Get your hubby to take some of the responsibility at night time so you can get some rest. This is natural so don't worry too much.

This is going to be very hard for you to do but you must do it in order to keep your sanity.
Once the baby is well feed and you put him to sleep do not run to pick him up with every sound he makes threw the night.
Let him make the sounds or cry.
This may go on for two or three night but after that he will sleep threw the night as he learns that no one is going to play with him in the middle of the night or feed him.
I know it sounds mean but actually the baby gets over it faster than you do.
My baby was 7 months old when someone told me what to do and a 7 month old baby can cry much louder than a 7 week old baby so the sooner you start the better it will be for you.
It took nearly a week for the baby to sleep threw the night but after that I never had that problem again and I too got some sleep!

There is no real science to it, each baby is different. But unfortunately babies do need feeding every couple of hours.
We did the following though and it worked for us.
Feed the baby as normal every 2 or so hours, even through the night. Dont let him wake up naturally, YOU wake him with the bottle ready to feed him. (if a baby wakes up naturally means that he is ready for actions) (this is the same with adults, you feel more tired if you are woken up by someone, rather than if you wake up naturally). keep him in his room with dim to no light. Then as soon as he is winded, put him straight back down. Keep this routine for around a fortnight, waking him every two hours. Then miss one feed out. miss this same feed at the same time every night for about a week, then miss another feed out. repeat this. Our kids were sleeping a full 8 hours by the time they were 2 1/2 months old. They are 4 and 2 now.

I'm sorry but I don't have that problem and I have a 3 week old. She sleeps almost all day then at night she's up until 12 to 2 in the morning. Then wakes up 1 to 2 times at night until 12 in the after noon. Just to be repeated again.

All babies are different. not sure if i just got a sleeping baby but i think my night time rutine has a massive impact. my son slept through the night from 3 wk. during the day he sleeps anywhere other then he's cot. night time is night time. i do the last feed in he's darkend rrom. i play a babysounds cd every night, so he knows once he hears that that it is time for long sleeps. i don't talk to him either. the last thing you want to do is stimulate a baby just before bed time. if you do this for a few weeks i'm sure you'll see a differnce....just remember. night time feeds should be done completely different to day feeds. good luck

It sounds like you are doing a great job--learning how to be a mom is hard work! It is totally normal for such a young baby to be waking as often as he does: his stomach is very small, but his requirements for growth (and love and attention) are huge.
I'm a big fan of co-sleeping (safely--see link below) because then the baby is right there with you at night and you hardly have to wake up to breastfeed him.
Another great tool is learning to wear your baby in a sling or other comfy carrier that keeps him close to you. Wear the baby as much as possible during the day as this tends to keep the baby calm and will encourage him to sleep better. See the link below for finding a local NINO chapter to teach you all about babywearing for free.

I know they say that giving a baby a bath with lavender baby wash helps to make them sleepy and ready for bed. Make sure in the middle of the night when he wakes up that you aren't playing with him and try and keep it dark inside, this way he won't think it's time to wake up. Try and put him to bed at night around the same time so he will get on a schedule. Just pat or rub his back and that should help get him back to sleep.

My first were twins and they seemed to cry constantly, I found that if I swaddled them in a blanket and placed them in their car seat, they would be asleep by the time we had driven around the block 2 or 3 times. It also didn't take me long to figure out that they would start crying within minutes of being taken out of the car. I know it sounds crazy but I had (on quite a few occasions) took my pillow and blanket with us and when i pulled back in the driveway I would just sleep in the car with them. It is amazing what us new moms will do for just a couple hours of quiet, uninterrupted sleep.

Try playing a little Kenny G or soft music at night. It helped some with my son and I tired to play with him and keep him active for about 2 hours before I wanted to go to sleep. Then I made sure he had a full belly, clean diaper, and put some Kenny G on. That helped some, but it just takes time for them to get on a good schedule.

It is entirely normal for a 7 week old newborn to be waking up every few hours to be fed. Don't count on him sleeping through the night for several more months. Some children are not sleeping through the night when they are two! All babies are different. If you have serious concerns, talk to your pediatrician.
