Worldwide, more people probably understand British diction clearly. American pronunciation (something of a dialect of English) is mumblier and more difficult to listen to.

For a Commonwealth country,the best is to follow British diction whereas non-Commonwealth countries the best is to follow American diction.

depends where you are, people in America really will not always understand you if you use British diction, proper english. Same vice versa although Americans tend to use slang and improper english.

In either case, it really depends on the region. Overall, I think the British trump Americans in listener-comprehension. Darn my slight Midwestern accent!
