I see some very impressive lake-effect bands on radar and reports of thundersnowshowers from BUF. (Thursday night).

Maybe you should wait until it is all over, but the person with the best description gets the 10 points.

I live in Williamsville ny (suburb of buffalo) we got 22 inches between friday and Sat, its the most ever in OCT by a landslide, its a bad scene right now, over 300,000 still without power, thousands of trees down, wires down, damage and most business and homes are without essential power, heat, etc.... its a real mess, I have lived here all my life and the damage is worse then the bizzard of 77, which was horrible, but I was just a kid then.... The snow was so heavy residential snow plowers had real problems clearing it because it was starting to melt so fast...

IT was really weird, I was digging my truck out of the garage Sat morning and it was thundering and lightning it was really freaky, just driving down the streets today, it was like being in another city because the landscape has changed so much because so many beautiful old trees are just ravaged, you could sit in the house and hear the trees cracking and popping outside, and then hitting the ground.... the snow is mostly melted now, but so many people are out of power, I was lucky my big trees were destroyed in a few storms that happened the past two years, so I didnt loose power, but my cable is out lol, and that sucks. The kids loved sitting on the snowbanks on top of the cars digging them out and watching the high lifts carry snow and debri off of our road. and we met alot of neighbors we didnt know this weekend... the sound of gas generators running is everywhere, and the street lights are dark in the most of the area, its really eerie even still it could be a week before the power is back on and we are all back to work and the kids are back to school.

I am also a former Buffalonian....and I now live in the NYC area. I called my parents, and they said they had a LOT of trees down, and even their Adelphia Cable line went down, but it didn't break. So, now they can still watch how bad their weather is on the Weather Channel, LOL.

Last I heard, which was this morning, there was more than 19 inches of snow reported at the Buffalo Airport. My dad said they just re-opened the airport around noon today. Also, the I-90 going west (to Erie) was re-opened this afternoon, but not going east. The thruway is still closed from Rochester to Dunkirk, many cars are still stranded. How horrible to be in that predicament!!!

My parents and grandma also lost power for almost a day. Guess everyone there is just freaking out about it, and were definitely NOT prepared for this. I mean, WHO would be?

I miss Buffalo, but not the winters. However, it isn't winter yet, is it?

I'm just glad my parents and grandma are okay, and got their power back on.

I am a former Buffalonian, I talked to my Mom tonight on the telephone, and she said that there was so much snow that it took out one of the oldest elm trees in the city, and her Black walnut tree split down the middle. The leaves were still on the trees, so the weight of the snow just tore the limbs down. This is the earliest storm like this on record. I recall trick or treating in a snowsuit as a child, but that is as early as I can remember significant snowfall. Wish I was there to help my dad shovel, before it turns to ice...I always loved snow with thunder! it breaks the silence.

here is an interesting tidbit...
"THE BUFFALO AIRPORT HAD OFFICIALLY RECEIVED 3 INCHES OF SNOW THROUGH 8PM. THIS MAKES OCTOBER 12, 2006 THE THIRD SNOWIEST DAY IN OCTOBER IN 137 YEARS OF WEATHER RECORDS. SIX INCHES OF SNOW OCCURRED ON OCTOBER 13, 1909 AND AGAIN ON OCTOBER 31, 1917"

sorry about the caps copy & pasted from NWS

Today at around 4 o'clock I got a phone call from some of my old friends they were "taking a snowday" meaning they all gathered in one house ( the one with heat & electric) and drank beer all afternoon...22 inches of snow... FUN WOW ( old fantasy island referance)
