Most likely there are fleas if the dog is kept inside, but not a great deal. An out break of an infestation is the worse. If you have an infestation of parasite fleas you will know it, you'll itch like crazy and you will have flea bites all over body .
My sister tried everything from Shampooing the carpet to actually gettin rid of the dog and it did no good.
I told her the secret to get rid of an infestation.
If your not sure if you have an infestation get a plate and and set the candle in the middle of the plate and pour water in the plate half full. The fleas will jump into the light and drown. In the morning you can check to see how many fleas are actually free and roaming. This really works no joke.

Yes. When fleas lay eggs the eggs simply drop off the host animal and if your pet is walking on the carpet the eggs will be there. There are several good products on the market but an exterminator will be able to use something that will work but be safe for your children. You are smart to be careful with pesticides on your carpet when you have small children. One of the major parts of flea control is frequent vaccuuming. As the fleas hatch they change into pupae and while they are in that stage (like caterpillars changing into butterflies) they are almost impossible to kill so you will still see some new fleas even after treating with pesticides. Don't assume the pesticides did not work - it's just that the fleas are still hatching out. Activity like vaccuuming or walking across the carpet and temperature changes induce the fleas to hatch. This means that the more vaccuming you do the faster they will hatch and die after contacting the treated carpet as adult fleas. I've had great success treating our 4 dogs with Advantage and Frontline.

You'll need to bath your pet a few times in flea shampoo, vacuuming the floor daily will also help removing them from the house. Change the bag everytime.

There's also this powder for the carpet found at petvetsupply.com:
Adams™ Carpet Powder with Linalool and Nylar® - Kills fleas and ticks on carpet. Contains Nylar®, an Insect Growth Regulator, and the botanically-derived insecticide, Linalool. Kills all four stages of the flea - adults, eggs, larvae, and pupae. Breaks the flea life cycle and controls reinfestation for up to 365 days. One 16 oz. container treats 1-2 rooms (200-400 square feet).

There are very likely fleas throughout your house, and a good safe and effective way to treat them is with diatomaceous earth:

How does DE kill fleas?

DE, when applied to the animal's fur, starts a scrubbing action on the hard exoskeletons of fleas (remember fleas have no bones on the inside like we do - they have hard armor on the outside for support and movement). The tiny granules of silicon (think finely ground sand) work in the tiny holes of the flea's respiratory system and in the joints of the fleas. Every time the flea moves or breathes, the silicon grinds away at the exoskeleton, eventually killing the flea through blocking/maiming the respiratory holes or by water loss, as the exoskeleton helps keep in the flea's body water. This works the same way when applied to carpets instead of fur.

Diatomaceous earth, a fine powder also known as silicon dioxide, consists of marine microorganisms. As the insects crawl over the fine powder, their waxy outer protection is scratched, causing them to dehydrate and die. Diatomaceous earth is non-toxic to humans and pets and will remain active as long as it is kept dry once applied.

You permit your pal understand in the event that they do no longer kill the fleas and genuine quickly the fleas will kill the cats and then the canine If the fleas are already invading the carpets and furnishings the subject is out of hand If there are any babies residing in that domicile the mothers and dads are risking dropping custody of them by no longer performing on the flea invasion. the excellent element to do is take the two cats and canine to a groomer for a defleaing and then no longer return them to the domicile until the flea situation is cured in the domicile removing fleas below the situations you describe is somewhat confusing they'd want expert help on extermination

If you keep an animal in the house treat them with frontline or advantage and then when the fleas bite the animal they will die. I found that was the best way to get rid of the fleas. It will also help to treat your yard too.

most definitely, but you can attract them out of the carpet by placing a flat plate with some water and a desk light near the plate overnight. The next morning you will see the dead fleas in the water.
